The Daisy Experiment

Want to teach your children something neat about plants? Then this is for you! We have been reading a book about flowers, roses to be exact. It talks about how flowers pull water up through the stalk and into the flowers head. We are currently showcasing this scientific phenomena on our kitchen table.

We mixed dark blue food dye with water and plant food in a vase. I cut the stems on a medium sized bouquet of fresh Daisies and added them. The dye shows up in the flower petals as the flowers “drink.” We just started last night and they are starting to get spotted already.

I’ll add a picture in a couple of days to show you where we end up! This is a great family friendly nature project to keep the education going in the summer months.
