Maifest – Covington, KY

Ivy got a peace sign fish from the face painter.

Maifest is a festival held in Covington, Ky each year. It is held the weekend after Mother’s Day. There are many shopping booths set up along Mainstrasse Village. There are tons of food vendors. Large rides and carnival style games are found in a lot between 5th street and Mainstrasse. There are lots of little kids’ rides set-up in Goebel Park. You can purchase a ride bracelet that will get you onto most of the rides. I should warn you that like all festivals you can easily spend a fortune! Keep in mind that everything here is overpriced and set a firm budget before you ever get out of your car. Oh, That reminds me. Parking is around $5 at many lots in the area and it can be hard to find. You may need to walk a little.

The sheer amount of people stuffed in the area can be dangerous for small children. Keep them in a stroller with a parent behind and in front. Consider leaving once it starts getting late. After dark the alcohol really begins to flow. People can easily get out of hand! Take the kids early. The night is for the grown-ups! If you are lucky enough to be over 21, There are tons of bars and street vendors offering German lager, wine, and even mixed drinks. This year there was a rock wall for the big kids and adults. It is a great way to make a fool of yourself without drinking. Hope to see you there next spring!
