Hallzooween at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens is a great Halloween outing! It starts on the weekend of October 8th this year. We went last year and the kids had a frightfully good time. I highly suggest this for a fall outing in Cincy. It does get crowded but if you go to one of the earlier weekends it is not as bad. They have treat stations throughout the grounds. They give out treats such as bananas, candy, ice cream, toothbrushes, vampire teeth, cookies and other goodies. There are spooky decorations around the zoo. The kids are encouraged to wear their costumes. Ivy loves getting her costume on every year and would like to wear it as many times as possible. They have various celebrations involving the animals. Last year the elephants were given pumpkins to smash and eat. It was fun to watch!
During Hallzooween was the first time I got the pleasure of seeing the wolves out. I thought it was funny that they came out during a spooky celebration. They had an area at the back where the kids got to pick out a small pumpkin to take home. They also had pumpkin carving events. The photo at the top was from a live pumpkin carve. A neat thing to see.
They have “The Little Beauty Shop of Horrors” where kids can get their nails painted, a hair clip, a sucker, and a fake tattoo. This was my favorite part. The little girls were so delighted to have their nails done and the women that were doing them were happy and animated. Even if you have boys stop by here to get a tattoo.
Keep this on your fun to do list for fall! The kids will be thrilled and you will be happy to still have some money in your wallet. There are enough treats to get you through the hours between an early lunch and late dinner. Be sure to pack water bottles! The kids and you will get thirsty between all the walking and the snacks. Their drink prices are a little steep.
